Cochise College Foundation
Cochise College began using the STARS scholarship software several years ago and immediately saw an increase in the number of students applying. The intuitive scholarship software allows Cochise College to easily match students with scholarships without carrying out a manual process. We have almost entirely eliminated paper. The software also enables us to managed multiple application cycles per year, meaning students seeking mid-year scholarships may be able to access additional help, and donors don't necessarily need to wait long to find out how their contribution has helped. In addition, rather than struggling with dates and times for a review committee to meet in one location, the STARS scholarship software allows committee members the freedom to review and score applications as time allows. When I got the call from Think Education Solutions in August 2006 about a new online scholarship application and evaluation tool, my staff and I were buried under nearly 1000 paper scholarship applications – we needed help! Stars Online to the rescue! When I took my job as associate dean in the College of Agriculture last year and realized that I was in charge of awarding over 200 scholarships and that the expandable file of applications was nearly a foot thick, I quickly began exploring options. I was thrilled to find John Hand and to learn of the capabilities of Stars Online. I am delighted to report that I have survived single-handedly setting up and running the program - and I am not a 'techie' person. STARS has proven itself to be a great investment for our institution, but most importantly our students! We live in an electronic age, and students of this generation have grown up using technology. Students find STARS to be user friendly; they complete one on-line application and the scholarship application process is done! We have over 160 Private Donor scholarships, plus approximately an additional 100 institutional scholarships which we award annually so from an administrator side of things STARS has simplified our scholarship awarding process greatly. The support staff at Think Technologies is amazing! I am not a technical person, and frankly do not understand technical jargon, yet each time I contact one of the Quality Assurance Managers my questions are answered quickly, effortlessly, and any problems that may arise are rectified within the time frame of the conversation.
